The Difficulty in Discussing God - Reason #1
Everyone Unknowingly Worships Two Gods
Without Being Aware of it, Everyone -- even Nonbelievers - Unknowingly Worship Two Gods
God as The Supreme Value
God as The Superior Power

The psychological definition of God, not the theological one, is that God is the Supreme Value.
The first, simplest and most basic theological definition of God is that for man, God is The Superior Power.
Every one of us, whether we are religious or not, has two Gods -- one we believe in in our conscious life (our Persona life), and -- without knowing it -- the Hidden God (the Supreme Value) we really worship unknowingly in our unconscious psyche (Shadow), the God that really controls our life without our even being aware of it.
While one may, in their conscious personality, their Persona, truly believe that their Supreme Value, the God they worship, is Christ, Buddha, Allah, Atman, the God of Moses, their own Reason, etc., in their unconscious, the Supreme Value which secretly controls them, the God they really worship without knowing it, is something very different from the God they think they worship.
The only way to find the real God is to first discover what is the Supreme Value we unknowingly worship in our unconscious, and -- precisely because it is our Supreme Value -- this unknown God, whatever form it takes, is a Superior Power, that transcends our own will power and intelligence, and secretly dictates what we do with our lives.
This unknown Supreme Value which secretly controls us, often against our will, acts as a Superior Power over our conscious personality, our ego, intellect and will, in a thousand different ways in us. This Supreme Value we worship in our unconscious acts as a Superior Power against the best intentions of our conscious personality, in the form of a neurosis, a drinking or drug problem, a lust for power, money, fame, an obsession with sex, a temper that destructively seizes one, a deep-seeded feeling of being unworthy, or a weakness that destroys our best intentions and firm resolutions to improve our lives by getting out of destructive relationships, stop smoking, start exercising, lose weight, a know-it-all complex, a Messiah complex, a need to be the center of attention, a need to control others, or be a victim controlled by others, a rejection complex, a feeling cheated complex, a fear of being abandoned complex, or any of a hundred other complexes, etc., the Superior Power, our unknown Supreme Value, overwhelms our conscious personality and determines what we will do, even against our will.
Which is why without knowing it, everyone worships two Gods, the God we honestly believe we worship in our conscious life, our intellect vs. the unknown God, the Supreme Value we unknowingly worship in our unconscious and which stands squarely in the way of us finding the true God. Our unknown Supreme Value which becomes a Superior Power over our consciously held values, will prevent us from ever finding God as long as it is allowed to operate unknowingly in our unconscious.
You will never find the real God, the Ultimate Superior Power and Supreme Intelligence, until you discover and transform this secret God, this unknown Superior Power controlling you in your Shadow Personality that you don't even know exists.
