The Difficulty in Discussing God - Reason #2
God and Religion Cannot Be Discussed Because They Are Unconscious Attitudes

God and Religion cannot be Discussed because they are Unconscious Attitudes Created -- either Positively or Negatively -- by the Parents as the First Experience of God
You can't argue religion or politics because neither of them are conscious decisions.
  Religion is an unconscious attitude.
This attitude is created in another transpersonal part of the psyche, and it reflects a deep, primordial need that's not subject to conscious control or intellectual discussion. Unless one first discovers the existence of this unconscious attitude towards God and religion, positively or negatively, and what is the cause of that attitude, the need creating that attitude, one will never be able to discover who and what God really is.
The first experience of God for the small child is the parents who, like God, have unlimited power. If the parent is supportive and loving, one grows up in believing in a God that is supporting and loving. If the experience of the parent is negative, destructive and hostile, one believes in a negative, destructive and hostile God. One sees life as dangerous and hostile.
The attitude one has towards one's unconscious is the attitude one has towards the world and towards God, i.e., the Superior Power or Superior Powers. If one experiences the unconscious personality of one or both parents as negative and hostile, one experiences one's own unconscious, the outside world, and God as negative and hostile, and goes through life with an unconscious fear and hostility always operating in the background. If on the other hand one experiences the unconscious psyche of the parents as supportive, enriching and loving, one views one's own unconscious, the outside world, and God as supporting, enriching and loving.
Whenever anyone tells me about their belief or lack of belief in God, they are not talking about God at all. Without knowing it, what they are really talking about is their mother complex or their father complex which is still operating in their unconscious to secretly control their life.
Christ's admonition to his followers that if they want to follow Him they must first leave their mother and father, means psychologically and spiritually, that you cannot discover your own ideas and beliefs, your own ideals, social and political beliefs, your own moral and ethical values -- and you will never discover God, the Veiled Deity hidden in your soul -- until you first get over your Mother Complex and your Father Complex.
