Too Often Religion is Nothing More than an Instrument of Power

Religion as Nothing More than an Ethic of Obedience

The first religion began way back when the first caveman realized that if he told his tribe he had just seen God, and if the people would just believe what he told them to believe, lived the way he told them to live, and performed the rituals he told them to perform, then the terrifying God would not punish him. Thus, the only way people could relate back to God and be saved was through him and by giving blind obedience to him.
Tragically this pattern of using revealed truths as a method of having control and power over people is -- and always has been -- the greatest danger inherent in organized religion, and if this element of a formal religion, the need to control the minds and hearts of as many people as possible, by any means possible, is present, it is completely destructive to helping individual members of that religion find and personally experience the Living God.

Where there is power there can never be love, where there is love there is no need for power.

Where power and blind obedience to dogma are the only operating principles in your religious life, then you no longer have a spontaneous living relationship to the real God. Instead, you are trapped in an ethic of obedience which makes it impossible to come to know and personally experience God's love and the real God hidden in your soul. No matter what your religion, Western or Eastern, no matter how devout you are, Jung's discoveries about God will enable you to free yourself from any destructive power elements that may be in your religion in order to focus on all of those positive aspects of your belief that will increase your devotion ten-fold.
The unique program Jung has given us shows how everyone can work through whatever abuse of authority may exist in their religion, if it does, and find in that religion the core of its beauty and teachings, and thereby enrich your religion immeasurably.
If you are not a member of an organized religion or creed, Jung's spiritual exercises will enable you to find God as the Supreme Value and Superior Power in your life and relate back to that Superior Power in the most personal and powerful way yet available to man.
