Shortly after Jung discovered that there existed a vast unknown part of our personality which Jung called the Unconscious, Jung made the even more startling discovery that this Unconscious was not a repository, a trash heap of things that had passed through the conscious personality and were suppressed, repressed or forgotten, but instead that there was something ALIVE down there. Jung spent the rest of his life learning what this “Living Thing” was down there, hidden in his soul, and what it wanted of him.
